COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Autumnfest— a special market event with vendors, a pet parade, food trucks and live music— will mark the end of the Canyon Farmers Market season on Sept. 27; the event runs on 4th Avenue in Canyon from 8:00 a.m. to noon and gives free pumpkins to the first 100 kids.  Amarillo Tribune
  • Dads and daughters in Amarillo will join a glow‑in‑the‑dark Halloween event on Oct 11 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Warford Activity Center where they will dress in costumes, test their Nerf skills, carve pumpkins, and enjoy nail painting and tea time—registration closes Oct 8 with a cost of $25 per pair plus extra fees for additional children.  NewsTalk 940 AM
  • Tomorrow, the Amarillo Yoga Festival will take place at the Farmer's Market at Shark Beach from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering free yoga classes, live music, vendors and activities to help raise funds for Amarillo Housing First and its Code Blue Warming Station — the event encourages a towel as participants practice yoga in the sand.  NewsChannel 10
  • The League of Women Voters of Amarillo will celebrate 75 years of voter education and civic engagement with a 'Past, Present & Future' event that reviews its legacy and looks ahead.   • The Panhandle Down Syndrome Guild is hosting its 24th annual Buddy Walk at Sam Houston Park at 4101 Line Ave. in Amarillo this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.—the event aims to raise awareness and support for Down Syndrome through food, a silent auction, a petting zoo, games, and crafts.  NewsChannel 10

  • Fermi America announced Wednesday that it began marketing its first stock offering of 25 million shares priced near $20 per share and started negotiations with Siemens Energy to buy three turbines for a natural gas electric plant—this plant will support four nuclear reactors powering artificial intelligence producers near Pantex.  NewsChannel 10

  • Amarillo Opera presents Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro for one night only at Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts—this performance, directed by Cynthia Stokes and sung in Italian with English supertitles, will start at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Organizers are making final preparations at Arts in the Sunset as the Hoodoo Mural Festival will take place Saturday, Sept. 27 from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.—the move from downtown Amarillo gives more time for setup and cleanup and allows more local artists to display their work.  ABC 7 Amarillo

EDUCATION NEWS

  • United Supermarkets and Kellanova donated $10K to support Amarillo College students facing food insecurity—32 gift cards valued at $250 each will stock the college’s five pantries while 80 additional cards will help students purchase groceries and essentials. The donation, announced on Sept. 24 at the Washington Street Campus, will provide ongoing support as about 2,000 students use the pantries each year.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Amarillo students are off school on October 10th and 13th, giving them a four-day weekend. Parents can register kids for Discovery Center’s Spooktacular Day Camp—offering half or full-day care with early and late pick up to fit busy schedules.  96.9 KISS FM
  • West Texas A&M University in Canyon will host Dr. Ben Carson on October 27th at 6:30 p.m. at the First United Bank Center for the Hill Institute event—he will deliver a talk followed by a Q&A session and each guest will receive a free book.  96.9 KISS FM

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Maxwell’s Pumpkin Farm will open its 18th season on Sept. 27 with over 30 family attractions including a giant maze, new paintball gallery, and the returning pumpkin cannon — inviting visitors to enjoy hayrides, photo spots, and an October fireworks show. Owner Larry Borger said he expects the expanded offerings to draw more families across 80 acres as the long-standing tradition of fall fun grows.  Amarillo Globe-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Ruben visited an Amarillo swim team that has been part of the community since 1969. Head coach Mykala Chavez — who joined a month and a half ago — said the growing team trains hard with support from three assistant coaches and many dedicated swimmers.  NewsChannel 10
