- ➤ Kids Inc. will hold a groundbreaking for Rockrose Sports Park on Oct. 7 at 4:30 p.m. — the event at 9100 Canyon Dr will feature tournaments for baseball, softball, soccer and flag football — and they are accepting financial gifts with naming rights available. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ AT&T donated $20,000 to the Amarillo Area Foundation on Friday, Sept 26 to support Project Reclaim, a program that helps domestic violence survivors recover their digital identities. The funding will let digital navigators meet survivors one-on-one — they will help reset passwords, recover accounts and secure new phones. Amarillo Globe-News

- ➤ Amarillo’s Chick-fil-A on Georgia Street will reopen on October 8 with a ribbon cutting at 9:30 a.m.—the restaurant closed in July for a remodel and is now hiring and training team members for its return. 96.9 KISS FM
- ➤ Leaf and Bubble is asking Amarillo residents to visit their cafe for boba, smoothies, and acai bowls as September is a tough month for local businesses with high bills and fewer visits. - ➤ In Amarillo, Cadillac Ranch was painted red as a tribute to Charlie Kirk, who was killed on Sept. 10. - ➤ The Hoodoo Mural Festival brings artists from across the country to Amarillo this weekend at Arts in the Sunset on Plains Blvd—event runs tomorrow from 3 to 11 p.m. David Swartz, who has worked nearly 11 hours on his mural since Sunday—said his work will add a fresh twist to the annual celebration of mural art. - ➤ Amarillo College approved a contract with TELUS Health+ to launch a free mental telehealth service for students who have seen a rise in counseling needs since its previous contract ended. The new program will offer care outside regular hours and is expected to be live before the end of the fall semester+ to better serve student demand. Amarillo Tribune

- ➤ Texas data centers are projected to use billions of gallons of water in the coming years as drought and population growth strain supplies — local groups in Amarillo have already raised concerns over protecting vital aquifers. At UT-Arlington, engineers are testing a new chemical refrigerant system that may cut water use and energy costs for future data centers. Amarillo Globe-News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Abbott signed House Bill 3000 which created the Rural Ambulance Service Grant Program to give financial help to rural Panhandle ambulance services. Counties with fewer than 10,000 people may get up to $500,000 while those with 10,000 to 68,750 residents may receive up to $350,000 – state rules are pending, funds will be available on Oct. 1, and EMS can order new ambulances on Jan. 1. - ➤ After three years of planning, the City of Amarillo and AT&T completed a $24 million fiber internet project that now delivers high-speed service to over 20,000 locations in the city — a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the Maverick Boys and Girls Club to mark the effort. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ Today the League of Women Voters invites the public to a free emergency preparedness presentation at the Amarillo Area Foundation at 919 S. Polk St. with a 9:30 a.m. meet and mingle and a 10 a.m. talk by Max Dunlap from the Office of Emergency Management — refreshments and door assistance are available. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ On September 23, Amarillo residents pressed city officials to slow the review of Fermi America’s proposed AI campus that may use millions of gallons of water daily—officials said no Fermi representatives attended the meeting and they are waiting for more details before any agreements are made.
