- ➤ Residents may donate pine cones to the Amarillo Zoo until October 10 to help make crafts for Boo at the Zoo, which will be held October 17—18. The zoo says the pine cones will be used to create projects that add a creative touch to this family event. NewsTalk 940 AM
- ➤ Amarillo Public Library teams up with the City of Amarillo’s Coming Home Program and United Way Youth Leadership Council to collect new adult socks during SOCKTOBER—all five library locations will gather socks to reach a goal of 1,500 pairs for care kits that will help local shelters. - ➤ Xcel Energy proposed a 1,300-acre solar farm in Potter County north of Amarillo to meet a rising summer power demand with construction scheduled to begin in 2027 and complete in 2028 — the project involves an investment of over $600 million. A community meeting is set for Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Methodist Church where company representatives and county officials will answer local residents' questions. NewsChannel 10

- ➤ The Amarillo Public Library is hosting a free event with Lauren Tarshis at the Civic Center Grand Plaza on Oct. 23 — fans will meet the bestselling author and can buy signed copies of her new 'I Survived' book about Black Sunday and the Dust Bowl. - ➤ The High Plains Marching Contest is taking place today at Dick Bivins Stadium as high school bands from the region perform to get feedback before the UIL competition—2A high schools perform at 10 a.m. and AISD bands are set from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. with finals at 7:30 p.m. NewsChannel 10

- ➤ Don Harrington Discovery Center’s Girls Who Science event on Monday, October 6, will feature park ranger Natalie Smith from Texas State Park Caprock Canyons who will share leadership skills and nature stories.
