  • Amarillo’s Old Tascosa Brewing Company is hosting a free fall festival with live music starting Saturday, October 10 at 8 p.m.—with bands Amy Coffman, Rick Faucett, and Larry Martin performing. The event continues on Sunday, October 11 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a vendor market and over 10 craft beers available, and vendor spaces are free if arranged with the brewery.  NewsTalk 940 AM
  • Kids Inc held a groundbreaking today at Rockrose Park (the largest youth sports complex in Amarillo) as parents and young athletes gathered to mark the start of a $30 million project.   • An overflow crowd gathered Tuesday night at Pleasant Valley Methodist Church to oppose Xcel Energy’s proposed $600 million solar farm project near Loop 335 in Potter County. Residents expressed concerns about property values — environmental impacts and nearby homes — and Xcel said it will consider the community’s feedback as it moves forward.  NewsChannel 10

  • Amarillo Botanical Gardens at 1400 Streit Dr. will host its first Trail of 1,000 Jack-O’-Lanterns event from October 22 to October 25, running from 6:30 to 9 p.m. each night. Adults will pay $10 while children 5 and under enter free, and visitors will see carved pumpkins, singing pumpkins, giant sculptures, and a butterfly installation—features that set this event apart in town.  96.9 KISS FM
  • The Amarillo International Film Festival will open tomorrow at Arts in the Sunset and run through October 11—showing 62 films from narrative, documentary, and student entries—and will include seminars on micro-budget movies and filming in Texas.  NewsChannel 10

  • Residents will attend a town hall meeting at Pleasant Valley Methodist Church Living Rock Center on October 9 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the future of Pleasant Valley Elementary School if it does not reopen next year — Amarillo ISD representatives will listen to community concerns.  NewsChannel 10

  • Amarillo National Bank announced Tuesday that it deferred loan payments and waived fees for federal employees and defense contractors missing paychecks during the partial government shutdown—customers qualify for up to six months of mortgage forbearance with credit reporting suspended, and credit and consumer loan payments will be deferred based on case-by-case verification.  Amarillo Globe-News

  • The loss of $68 million in federal COVID funding is threatening Texas' naloxone distribution program — local groups in Amarillo have already seen some services shut down and will face more cuts unless alternative funds are found.  Amarillo Globe-News
