GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Amarillo residents are upset about the planned Fermi plant that will use about 5.5 million gallons of water per day and boost water use by over 10%; a city council meeting on October 15 stated that no binding water contract exists. • The Amarillo City Council approved a new rule for accepting art donations and accepted the Amarillo Cowboy statue—this step sets a clear process for future public art and brings closure to a long delay. The council also reassigned a tax rebate for a downtown hotel, and Mayor Stanley cast the only no vote because he said the process was not followed.  Amarillo Globe-News
