- ➤ Amarillo’s Wicked Wash Haunted Car Wash returns October 23rd to 25th at the new Toot’n Totum location at 2151 SE 34th Ave, offering a spooky car wash with 99¢ drinks & Texas-style BBQ while charging $25 per car with a $5 discount when donating to Gracie’s Project. NewsTalk 940 AM
- ➤ This October, pet owners in Amarillo can get free microchipping for their dogs and cats during Chip or Treat at the Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare office at 3501 S. Osage — open Saturday and Monday from 10 am to 6 pm. NewsTalk 940 AM
- ➤ On Thursday, Oct. 16, Amarillo celebrated local businesses and community leaders at the Civic Center during the 2025 Best of Amarillo Awards. - ➤ The Salvation Army of Amarillo will begin accepting in-person Angel Tree applications on Monday — applicants must call to schedule an appointment and bring photo ID, income proof, a bill and a child's birth certificate. Approved applicants will be notified of their distribution location by Dec. 10 and all applications must be submitted by Oct. 31 or when slots fill. NewsChannel 10

- ➤ Toys R Us reopened in Grapevine and Lubbock, and some hope Westgate Mall in Amarillo will soon bring back a piece of childhood—residents recall the store that closed over seven years ago with fond memories. 96.9 KISS FM
- ➤ New owners revived Hoot's Pub before it closed in early September and it reopened yesterday with happy hour from 4–7 p.m. featuring $2 wells & $2 domestic pints; the pub is also set to host Ladies' Night and live music to bring fresh energy to this Amarillo staple. NewsTalk 940 AM
- ➤ Texas Rose Steakhouse announced it will open a new restaurant at 5050 S. Coulter — the former Rib Crib building — to serve juicy steaks and Texas favorites. Local residents are excited for the opening as the new dining option is expected to revitalize the Coulter area. NewsTalk 940 AM
- ➤ Got Donuts is hiring staff for its new Washington Street shop in Amarillo—offering up to $15 an hour for kitchen staff and $12 for cashiers—and plans to open in two weeks. The chain will expand further with a second location on Olsen Blvd next. NewsTalk 940 AM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Oct. 16th at Canyon ISD Business and Community Leaders Luncheon, Superintendent Flusche and former Amarillo mayor Trent Sisemore discussed the district's academic and athletic successes while previewing Fermi America’s proposed AI campus on over 5,200 acres near Pantex. Sisemore explained the project will include 15 million square feet of industrial space and a private power plant capable of 11 gigawatts, with an estimated initial investment over $1B and potential to create between 5,000 and 20,000 jobs—promising long-term growth for the region. - ➤ Amarillo College received a line of credit from Amarillo National Bank to cover costs for two construction projects — the Student Life Center at the Washington Street Campus and the Health Sciences Simulation Center at West Campus. The college used the credit briefly before getting state funds and now expects to finish the projects with tuition and state support. NewsChannel 10

- ➤ Ken Gomez, a male breast cancer survivor, recalled that an inverted nipple led to his December 15 diagnosis of stage 2B cancer and subsequent radiation treatment that brought him into remission on February 3, 2017—he now urges men to check for lumps and nipple changes to catch the disease early.
