CULTURE NEWS

  • Amarillo will host the Readiculous Book Fair for adults featuring local authors, nostalgic books, and fun gifts; the event will be held Saturday, November 15, from 11 am—3 pm at The Party Suite on S. Washington. Attendees will have a chance to meet authors and explore unique items that recall the joys of childhood book fairs.  96.9 KISS FM
  • West Texas Wheels is hosting a FRIENDS-themed Thanksgiving adventure in Amarillo on November 8 at 4PM that begins with a shuttle ride from Tabletop Tavern, a coffee stop at Leaf & Bubble and a trifle-building session. The event will end with a Friends trivia contest and tickets cost $55 — a fun night for any fan.  96.9 KISS FM
  • Lauren Tarshis, author of the I Survived book series, will visit Amarillo today for a free book signing at the Civic Center Complex Grand Plaza at 6 p.m.—doors open at 5:30 p.m. as she promotes her new release I Survived the Dust Bowl, 1935.  Amarillo Tribune
  • The Don Harrington Discovery Center is hosting an adults-only movie night with a screening of Beetlejuice! The event takes place on Friday, Oct. 24 at 8:30 p.m.—tickets cost $10 or $25 with a wristband add-on for unlimited drink refills and popcorn.  NewsChannel 10
  • Cinergy Entertainment is hosting its Demon Season Halloween Series in October with screenings of films such as Ghostbusters and A Nightmare on Elm Street, and offering special food and drinks like Cinergy Brown Sugar Lemonade and Ole Smokey Blackberry Moonshine. The series runs from October 24 to October 26 with sensory-friendly and regular showings planned to add extra thrills to local spooky events.  NewsTalk 940 AM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas Tech’s School of Veterinary Medicine earned full accreditation from the AVMA Council on Education on Oct. 21 — marking it as one of only 31 nationally and fulfilling a decade-long effort to serve rural communities. University leaders say the milestone strengthens Amarillo’s support for local agriculture by boosting veterinary education and services.  Amarillo Globe-News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Texas Agricultural Land Trust and the Owens family protected 1,725 acres at Rim Ranch along Palo Duro Canyon + another 1,323 acres will be saved by year-end to keep the family legacy intact. The deal, which began with easements finalized on Oct. 17, preserves the historic ranch that has been in the Owens family since the late 1940s.  Amarillo Globe-News

  • Two Center City projects in Amarillo are finalists for the 2025 President’s Awards Program—Amarillo City Hall is competing for Best Restoration and the new Potter County Justice Building is in the running for Best New Construction. Winners will be announced next month at the Texas Downtown Association Conference in Waco.  NewsChannel 10
  • AT&T will launch its FirstNet Fusion app next month to let first responders in the Panhandle talk and share video during emergencies. The new app will be tested using feedback from departments and become available early next year (subscription costs match current rates).  NewsChannel 10
  • The National Nuclear Security Administration furloughed 1,400 workers during the government shutdown, but Pantex said no PXD employees were affected. It remains unclear if any of the furloughed workers were from the Amarillo plant—DOE has been contacted for clarification.  ABC 7 Amarillo
