- ➤ The Rainbow Room is preparing its annual Christmas Project to provide clothing and gifts for between 175—200 children in eight Panhandle counties during the upcoming holiday season. Volunteers have raised donations all year to help support children in need, including those in foster care. ABC 7 Amarillo
- ➤ Dogs in costumes gathered at Bubba's 33 on Oct. 22 for the restaurant’s first Bark & Treat event as Michael Davilla hosted a pet-friendly evening with treat tables, contests judged by the Amarillo Wranglers — sponsors included Canyon Road Animal Hospital and Off Leash K9 Training. - ➤ Amarillo will soon see the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile return during Halloween week. The 27-foot vehicle will visit local spots including Bivins Home on Tuesday, Oct. 28, Townsquare Media on Wednesday, Oct. 29, the Public Library and The ER on Soncy on Friday, Oct. 31, and Home Depot plus Bar Z Winery on Saturday, Nov. 1 with a Route 66 ride giveaway on Sunday, Nov. 2 — check local listings for details. 96.9 KISS FM
- ➤ Amarillo Botanical Gardens hosted the first Trail of 1,000 Jack—o—Lanterns on October 22, drawing about 2,000 visitors with hand-carved pumpkins and treats like caramel apples and cider, and the event will continue this weekend. - ➤ The area between Amarillo and Canyon is growing as new restaurants, shops, and office spaces open along South Soncy Road — a stretch that was once farmland. - ➤ Two Amarillo Art Deco-style buildings are finalists for the President’s Awards Program by Texas Downtown. Amarillo City Hall, restored in the historic Hardware building, is competing for Best Restoration while the new Potter County Justice Center vies for Best New Construction — winners will be announced at the Texas Downtown Association Conference in November. - ➤ Fermi America is working on the foundation at the Project Matador site near Pantex and has cleared three million square feet for the first phase of its Hypergrid campus in Carson County. The company is grading the generation area and drilling for foundations while Amarillo will meet Tuesday to finalize a water agreement — officials say the project may create 11 gigawatts of power by the mid-2030s. - ➤ AFD Deputy Chief David Kouba earned the international Chief Fire Officer designation from the Commission on Professional Credentialing—joining Fire Chief Jason Mays as one of only two AFD leaders with this honor. - ➤ Former Gov Rick Perry discussed the Matador Project in an exclusive interview as Fermi America plans to build the world's largest AI data center in Amarillo with four nuclear reactors that may produce 11 gigawatts of power—raising community concerns over water usage amid regional drought risks and agricultural reliance on aquifers. - ➤ High Plains Food Bank and Catholic Charities are preparing for a possible pause in SNAP benefits if the government shutdown extends into November.
