- ➤ St. Matthew’s Methodist Church at 1631 S Roberts in Amarillo will host its final fundraiser of the year on November 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., serving two gorditas, rice, beans, and a bottled water for $14 as a new dish replacing the traditional sopapillas—kids can get a special plate for $7. - ➤ Square Mile Community Development is collecting monetary and food donations to help about 300 refugees in the Texas Panhandle as the government shutdown continues. The organization is asking for donations of chicken, rice, flour, beans and vegetable oil—using fresh produce from its urban farms to provide healthy food while waiting for SNAP benefits to resume. - ➤ La Frontera has refreshed its storefront with a new coat of paint and security lights using the Business Improvement Grant Program that offers up to a 50 percent match for exterior projects. Eligible Amarillo businesses in neighborhoods like the Barrio, Eastridge, North Heights, San Jacinto + Route 66 can apply starting November 3 and may reapply annually after completed improvements are reimbursed. - ➤ A statue called 'The Amarillo Cowboy' was unveiled today at City Hall and was donated by King and Dianne Hill. It was created by King's father in honor of his cowboy grandfather from LX Ranch — a tribute to the enduring spirit of local cowboys. ABC 7 Amarillo
- ➤ Today the Amarillo Council for the Latino Arts hosts its third Day of the Dead Festival at Starlight Ranch starting at noon—this free event displays art, food, culture, and tradition with a Catrina contest and a fashion show featuring 240 artists such as Isabel Almanza. ABC 7 Amarillo

- ➤ Amarillo College and International Aerospace Coatings honored late Donnie Hammer on Oct. 9 by presenting the inaugural Donnie Hammer Memorial Scholarship at the East Campus Public Service Training Center—aviation student Bryan Lopez was recognized to support his pursuit of certification. - ➤ The Education Credit Union Foundation awarded 162 Pocket Change Grants to Texas Panhandle educators in 33 school districts and 102 campuses—supporting teachers like the Puckett Elementary music teacher to purchase extra instruments so each student can experience music. NewsChannel 10

- ➤ Amarillo Botanical Gardens Executive Director Greg Lusk advised locals to reduce watering now to harden their plants before freezing temperatures arrive—he added that insulative cloths can trap ground heat while some plants may not survive the cold.
