- ➤ H-E-B surprised Family Support Services by donating one of its biggest gifts after learning about the nonprofit's recovery from a fire five years ago—giving them a welcome boost—though the chain does not plan to open a store in Amarillo. ABC 7 Amarillo
- ➤ Amarillo’s Coming Home program is partnering with local homeless shelters—Guyon Saunders Resource Center and Transformation Park’s Safe Space—and Amarillo City Transit to offer rides when temperatures fall below freezing this winter, ensuring help for those without shelter. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ Amarillo Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics will host its 18th annual candy buyback event on Nov. 7 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at APDO Town Square — visitors can trade unwanted candy for $2 per pound up to three pounds, and the collected candy will be sent to troops overseas while food trucks, free face painting, and Kid ID cards from Amarillo Crime Stoppers add to the event. - ➤ Fermi America has announced Project Matador, a $60 billion plan to build a campus for AI data centers on 5,769 acres near Pantex that will use nuclear, gas, water and solar power to produce up to 11 gigawatts of energy. The project will begin this year with site grading and gas operations—construction is set to finish in 2032 and bring up to 10,000 construction jobs along with 600 full-time positions. - ➤ Fermi America received preliminary TCEQ approval for its Project Matador near Amarillo pending public review, as it plans to build 6 GW of natural-gas power with initial units set to operate in 2026—further review and public comments are required for final approval. - ➤ The 45th annual Christmas Roundup will take place this weekend at the Amarillo Civic Center — over 140 merchants will offer shopping, cocktails, entertainment, door prizes, and a silent auction. Proceeds will benefit the Amarillo Museum of Art's educational programs, and the market will run Friday from noon until 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. NewsChannel 10

- ➤ Rim Ranch—a 3,000-acre property along Palo Duro Canyon owned by the Owens family—is set to be preserved through a conservation easement that protects the canyon view. One section, known as The Other Place, was easement-protected on July 17 while the remaining area is scheduled for conservation in early 2026. Amarillo Tribune

- ➤ Nonprofits in Amarillo are seeing more families need food help as the government shutdown continues and SNAP benefits lapse. High Plains Food Bank has received increased calls and visits, and Catholic Charities has noted more inquiries — one in 11 residents may soon require extra food support. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ Texas Downtown named Amarillo City Hall the winner of the state award for best restoration and a group including Mayor Pro Tem Les Simpson (and other city officials) will accept it at the Texas Downtown President’s Gala in Waco. - ➤ Texans approved Proposition 14 that will allocate $3 billion for dementia research at Texas Tech University Health Science Center to help fight Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. - ➤ Authorities linked Walmart’s Marketside prepared pasta meals to a listeria outbreak—six people died and 25 were hospitalized.
