COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Salvation Army in Amarillo is asking volunteers to ring red kettles—helping raise funds for meals, shelter and other services this holiday season. Those who cannot volunteer may also donate money or choose a gift for a child from the Angel Tree.  96.9 KISS FM
  • West Texas A&M University and the City of Canyon are hosting a joint Veterans Day celebration today at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial on campus to honor veterans, active-duty military, and Gold Star families. The event will include remarks (by Capt. Christopher M. Jones and Shelby Perkins), a flyover, live performances, and free hot dogs and buffalo cookies.  NewsChannel 10
  • Toys for Tots in Amarillo has seen a record high with over 450 family applications for Christmas toy donations as coordinator Dawnette Lusk said the current economy has doubled sign-ups and local groups & a law firm have joined to donate gifts.  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • Today, many local organizations in Amarillo honor Veterans Day with ceremonies at the Panhandle War Memorial and Amarillo College’s AC Clock Tower along with a breakfast at AmTech Career Academy and special programs at local schools—each event showing gratitude to veterans. City offices are closed and local businesses like Great Clips and Raising Cane’s are offering promotions to support veterans and active duty members.  Amarillo Tribune
  • Amarillo Parks and Recreation will host a swim-in movie night on December 6 at Warford Activity Center—families can enjoy the movie Elf while swimming, and reservations must be made by December 4 at $10 per person.  96.9 KISS FM
  • Amarillo CASA will partner with the police for the seventh annual Cops for CASA event scheduled for Nov. 13 and 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. and Nov. 15 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Kohl’s parking lot (2610 S. Soncy Rd) to provide Christmas gifts for foster children. Donors may drop off presents or gift cards to help meet the needs of foster kids during the event.  Amarillo Tribune

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A grass fire near Pantex was contained on November 10th after crews from Carson County Emergency Management, Panhandle Fire Department, and Pantex fire crews responded near Highway 60, FM 2373, and County Road 7 (the cause is undetermined).  NewsChannel 10

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Goodwill Industries of Northwest Texas is hosting a job fair today from 9 a.m. to noon at 1904 Bell Street in Amarillo.  NewsChannel 10

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today the West Texas A&M University Foundation broke ground on a new $15 million research feedlot and education complex that will include modern classrooms, a small auditorium, and advanced feedlot technology — construction on the education center will begin this winter and the feedlot later in 2026. The facility is designed to enhance research and learning for students and beef industry professionals while strengthening the university’s role in agricultural innovation.  NewsChannel 10

  • Potter County commissioners approved a unanimous spending of $12,000 for Amarillo College to train first responders in mental health in February—using federal recovery funds from the COVID pandemic.  NewsChannel 10
