COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The annual Cops for CASA Toy and Gift Card Drive will take place from November 13 through November 15 at Kohl's parking lot in Amarillo as a partnership between Amarillo Area CASA and local law enforcement. Residents can drop off new toys, gift cards or cash to support foster children (each donation goes directly to the agency serving local foster kids).  NewsChannel 10
  • On November 11, veterans, families and community leaders gathered at the Texas Panhandle War Memorial Center to honor service and sacrifice. The ceremony featured flag presentations, a vintage aircraft flyover and bagpipe music, with leaders reminding all that remembering is a way to honor those who served—an act that speaks to the heart of our community.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • The closing of the local Chuck E Cheese at the end of April has pushed Amarillo families to drive to Lubbock for a taste of the childhood fun they once enjoyed — many make the trip before their kids outgrow the experience.  NewsTalk 940 AM

  • Parad-Ice, a family-run shop serving authentic Mexican ice cream and paletas, opened its doors on October 22 at 3429 S. Osage and held a ribbon cutting on October 28 with the Amarillo Hispanic Chamber of Commerce — continuing a 75-year family legacy.  96.9 KISS FM
  • 107 Roasters is relocating to Amarillo to bring award-winning coffee, fresh baked goods, and a rock—n’roll café vibe to 512 SW 47th. Founders Dave and Elaine Krazer, in partnership with Peace Love Cookies, plan to open the café soon and will offer behind-the-scenes tours of their coffee roasting process.  NewsTalk 940 AM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Canyon’s museum is closed for repairs but will hold its Christmas Open House on the east lawn on December 6 from 1 to 3 p.m. Visitors can enjoy photos with Santa, hot cocoa or cider, cookies, and a craft station with a suggested admission of one can of food or $1 per person to benefit the High Plains Food Bank.  96.9 KISS FM
  • Visitors to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch museum in Oldham County learn about the Panhandle's early history in a building that once served as an old courthouse and later housed ranch kids until 1961. Established in 1965, the museum displays donated artifacts from Tascosa and the ranch and draws thousands of guests each year—helping keep local history alive.  NewsChannel 10
  • On Thursday, Nov. 13, Panhandle PBS, Amarillo Public Library and Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum will host an event on American Revolutionary history at Downtown Library, 413 SE 4th, from 5 to 7 p.m. Attendees will explore a temporary exhibit with Revolutionary artifacts — including a lock of George Washington’s hair — and watch film clips at 5:45 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.  NewsChannel 10

  • Tuesday, Canyon and West Texas A&M University hosted a Veterans Day ceremony that honored military service with speeches from retired U.S. First Sergeant Todd Hokanson and Mayor Gary Hinders—featuring patriotic music, a memorial wreath placement, and a dramatic flyover by the West Texas Warbird Flight. The event, organized by the city and the university, remembered both active duty and retired service members along with their families.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • DPS and Randall County Fire Department conducted aerial rescue training Tuesday, November 11 at Randall County Fire Department No. 1 on SL 335 to practice safely hoisting a victim into a helicopter—preparing responders for rescues in hard-to-reach areas like flash floods and canyon injuries.  ABC 7 Amarillo

HEALTH NEWS

  • Coffee Memorial Blood Center invites healthy donors age 16 and older to give blood from November 10 to December 25 to help save lives. The center offers a limited-edition t-shirt featuring Ebenezer Scrooge + the slogan 'Don't Get Ghosted' as a thank you for each donation that can save up to three lives.  NewsChannel 10

SPORTS NEWS

  • Amarillo and Canyon high school teams earned playoff berths from strong season records and will compete in the Texas football playoffs with games scheduled on Thursday, Nov. 13 and Friday, Nov. 14 at various stadiums — three teams come from CISD and three represent AISD — following a challenging season.  NewsTalk 940 AM
