COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, about 40,000 people gather at the Amarillo Civic Center Complex for the World Championship Ranch Rodeo to raise funds for a crisis fund—scholarship fund—and natural disaster relief. The WRCA board is working with the city on a one-year lease for future events and the rodeo is expected to generate around $6-million in direct spending in Amarillo.  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • Amarillo will celebrate as Christmas In The Sky returns to HODGETOWN on Dec. 12 with gates opening at 5:30 p.m. and a 7 p.m. kickoff featuring fireworks, free hot chocolate, milk, and cookies—organized by Fairly Group and The OccuNet Company and expecting over 25,000 guests.  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • On Oct. 14, city staff found a special needs child walking down Buchanan Street toward Amarillo Civic Center after a substitute bus driver mistakenly dropped him off. Officers and workers swiftly secured his safety and he was later returned to his family—underscoring local efforts to protect vulnerable children.  Amarillo Tribune
  • Townsquare Media stations and local partners will host Help for the Holidays from December 1 to December 8 at 2221 I 40 Frontage Rd in the old Vexus Building in Wolfin Square. The drive will accept new baby, cleaning, clothing, food, and other essential items each day from 7 am & 7 pm to help those in need this season.  96.9 KISS FM

  • Sticky Chikky is preparing to open its second location on 34th and Osage after overcoming a tragic loss and building a strong local following—final work on the building and parking lot is underway to make the restaurant more accessible.   • Fermi America updated its shareholders in its first investor call since going public, detailing major work on its 5,769-acre campus (including 6,500 feet of roads and 12,000 feet of water lines) and key agreements with Hyundai Engineering, Siemens Energy and Doosan. The call also noted a natural gas supply deal with Energy Transfer and plans to begin revenue production in 2026.  Amarillo Tribune

EDUCATION NEWS

  • CISD and Amarillo College have partnered to offer the Badger Bound Scholarship—a program that covers up to 45 college credit hours for students who complete 15 dual credit hours before graduation. The initiative will start with the CISD Class of 2026 as eligible students enroll at Amarillo College the summer or fall after graduation.  96.9 KISS FM
  • Amarillo College said its vice president of business affairs, Chris Sharp, resigned this week amid an independent audit that began after he was placed on administrative leave in early October — officials noted that the college’s finances remain stable and daily operations are unaffected. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Amarillo City Council approved a plan to redevelop the historic Herring Hotel with a 4-0 vote on October 28, and the project now moves to final design and historic review. Officials said the incentive package—featuring tax rebates and a lease partnership—will start work about 15 months after the agreement’s effective date while they await Potter County’s decision.  NewsTalk 940 AM
  • Decorated Vietnam veteran and former mayor Paul Harpole was surprised with TxDOT’s Road Hand Award on November 11 at the Veterans Day ceremony at the Texas Panhandle War Memorial Center. HEALTH NEWS

  • A survey released yesterday by Tobacco Free Amarillo found that more than 3,200 students in Amarillo from grades 6 to 12 have cut their use of traditional tobacco, with only 4.5% of 12th graders smoking and smokeless tobacco use falling by 93% + nearly one in six said they used vapes and one in five said they were bullied in school.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo will host a free memory screening event tomorrow from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Texas Tech Physicians first floor lobby—1400 South Coulter St to raise awareness of memory health and advise on early checks.  NewsChannel 10
  • One in four kids face online bullying each month, according to the National Children’s Alliance.
