  • Amarillo High student leaders delivered around 7,000 shelf-stable food items + funds to support 75 children at Amarillo Children’s Home during the 93rd annual holiday Food & Fund Drive this morning.  NewsChannel 10
  • For over 100 years, the Salvation Army has collected donations through its red kettle campaign during the holiday season to help those in need—United Supermarkets donated $1,000 today to support the campaign until December 23.   • Rick Husband International Airport in Amarillo offers flights to major destinations including Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, and Denver—its long runway and a new aircraft paint hangar under lease add to its growing services.   • Tyson Foods Amarillo informed workers today that nearly 1,700 jobs will be cut as B-shift positions are eliminated following a shift consolidation — operations will end on or about January 20. The layoffs come as U.S. cattle supplies dropped to a 75-year low.  NewsChannel 10
  • Xcel Energy and Transource Energy, LLC will expand a transmission project that connects the Potter County substation near Amarillo to Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company’s Beckham County substation (a 128-mile line costing about $222 million) as part of the SPP’s Integrated Transmission Planning Assessment; the line is expected to be in-service by November 2029.  NewsChannel 10
  • A new Brace Yourself store opened in Amarillo to offer home medical equipment and mobility aids at 5215 Coulter St. #400.   • Tyson Foods announced it will reduce operations at its Amarillo plant and close its beef facility in Lexington, Nebraska, affecting 1,700 jobs. CULTURE NEWS

  • The Speed family has donated an N-3N aircraft built in 1943 from a hangar outside Adrian to the Amarillo Air and Space Museum so visitors can learn about its role training Navy pilots during World War II. EDUCATION NEWS

  • West Texas A&M University has set up the Panhandle Institute for Engineering Research and announced its first project to use a mobile desalination unit to turn brackish water from the Dockum Aquifer into usable water for farming and livestock operations—U.S. Rep.
