COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Amarillo’s Help 4 The Holidays donation drive returns this week to collect essential items for families who are struggling with bills. The drive runs Monday through Sunday from 7 am to 7 pm at the old Vexus building (2221 I-40 Frontage Rd, Wolflin Square) and works with over 20 local non-profit groups (that help with basic needs).  NewsTalk 940 AM
  • The 41st annual Amarillo Farm & Ranch Show opens today at the Amarillo Civic Center Complex with free admission and special forums on beef cattle and water conservation that are expected to draw between 15,000 and 18,000 visitors over three days. The event features a new beef cattle roundtable with keynote Dr. Temple Grandin and a water conservation session with state senator Charles Perry on Wednesday—tickets are required for some sessions.  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • Leonard Family Farm at 17670 FM 1062, six miles west of Canyon, will open its Country Lights display on Dec. 13—offering a drive-thru tour with free hot cocoa and a sale of fresh Pinon trees. The farm will also join the Parade of Lights with Randall County 4-H kids on Dec. 7 at Canyon Historic Square.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Fermi America donated $5,000 to the 100 Club of the Texas Panhandle on December 1 to support local first responders — the funds will help law enforcement and firefighters in the top 26 counties of the region.  NewsChannel 10

  • A Lupita’s Express drive-thru will open soon at 3rd and McMaster’s in Amarillo — in the former Munchies building — and it will operate from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  96.9 KISS FM
  • Dairy Queen has launched its holiday Blizzards at local stores—featuring a new Peppermint Bark Blizzard with white and milk chocolate layers and peppermint candy cane pieces mixed into its soft serve. The chain is also offering a returning Frosted Sugar Cookie Blizzard with sugar cookies, icing, and sprinkles to bring a festive treat to the community.  96.9 KISS FM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Center City will host a Christmas Electric Light Parade Friday night — the event follows a Speakeasy Celebration at the Barfield Hotel, as Executive Director Beth Duke explained on KGNC-AM’s NewsDay Amarillo Monday.  KGNC
  • Amarillo Little Theatre Academy opens its holiday season with its play 'Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells!' at ALT Adventure Space from Dec. 5 to Dec. 14 — the production stars young actors in a funny first-grade tale and will include a special give-back show on Dec. 11 for local nonprofits and families.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Amarillo residents are lighting up the season with dazzling displays that feature hundreds of lights, inflatables, & holographic projections to spread holiday cheer in their neighborhoods. Homeowners can send in photos of their decorated houses for a chance to win a $500 Hallmark Gift Card.  96.9 KISS FM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TxDOT announced that both directions of I-27 near Country Club Road and Buffalo Stadium Road closed Monday evening at 7 p.m. for bridge demolition—drivers were directed to use frontage road detours and work will continue until Thursday, Dec. 4.  NewsChannel 10

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Amarillo families can kick off or enjoy their holiday tradition by driving to top light displays such as Candy Cane Lane, Wolflin, the Colonies, Bishop Hills and the Amarillo Botanical Gardens, which open after Thanksgiving until Christmas Day—each spot offering festive views and treats like coffee and pup cups. The guide includes an updated map so visitors can easily find the best routes and share their favorite displays.  96.9 KISS FM

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Plains remain the only Amarillo/Canyon team left after beating Canyon 35-3 and will face the Stephenville team at 7 p.m. Friday at Lubbock’s Lowrey Field—this game will decide if they advance to the quarterfinals.   NewsTalk 940 AM
