  • The Salvation Army of Amarillo urges residents to adopt over 200 Angel Tree tags by Dec. 13 so 950 children can receive holiday gifts on Dec. 17. Major Andrea Ellis said volunteers and staff are ready to help with gift selection + distribution.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • More than 200 people attended Amarillo Civic Center's first 'Lights, Camera, Christmas' on Dec 2—where families saw the Christmas tree light up, enjoyed a choir performance, and watched The Polar Express—and officials said they will add more holiday events soon to bring the community together.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • On day one of Help 4 The Holidays, Victor—who does not live in Amarillo but heard about the drive on a local station—drove in with a truckload of donation bags on a freezing, stiff day.   • The Amarillo Farm & Ranch Show is underway at the Amarillo Civic Center, where exhibitors display new technology like small helicopters for cattle checks and tractor automation systems to help farmers boost efficiency.   • Lone Star Ballet will present The Nutcracker at the Amarillo Civic Center Complex Auditorium, featuring 113 dancers from young beginners to seasoned performers—marking 51 years of a cherished local holiday tradition. HEALTH NEWS

  • Hereford Regional Medical Center now offers inpatient dialysis treatment for kidney patients — eight to ten certified nurses care for those with kidney issues — which keeps patients local and avoids transferring to larger hospitals.  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • Melissa Smith, an Amarillo school health specialist, is honored by the American Heart Association today for leading the Kids Heart Challenge + American Heart Challenge programs that teach students healthy habits and CPR to help fight rising childhood obesity.
