COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Amarillo Angels raised $65,000 during the Panhandle Gives campaign to support foster children and families by providing mentorship, resources + relationship-building. The nonprofit plans to use the funds to help local foster kids thrive.  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • Delivery drivers in Amarillo are sharing holiday gratitude for clear directions, cooperative weather, and generous customer tips that help make their busy days smoother (key to safe and timely deliveries) this season.  NewsTalk 940 AM
  • Help for the Holidays is accepting only new donations at its Headquarters (2221 I-40 Frontage Rd in the old Vexus Building in Wolfin Square) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. The drive began Monday, Dec. 1 and will continue until Sunday, Dec. 8.  NewsTalk 940 AM
  • The Amarillo Area Foundation announced that The Panhandle Gives campaign raised $10.95 million for local nonprofits after a nine-day drive ending Dec. 3—supported by 1,785 new donors with an average gift of $820.   • The Bridge announced a capital campaign to raise $10 million for a new facility extending medical and mental health services for Texas Panhandle children and co-housing for the local Special Victims Unit — groundbreaking to come in spring 2026.   • Rolling Hills neighborhood will host a holiday parade starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at Rolling Hills Elementary School (2800 West Cherry Ave) with the route heading south from the school.  NewsChannel 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • West Texas A&M University lit campus with nearly 200,000 bulbs for its annual Festival of Lights on Dec. 3, drawing local families, students, and Canyon residents. The event featured music, Santa’s arrival, and festive treats (cookies, hot chocolate, and cider) to kick off the holiday season.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • This week, Amarillo witnessed its first wedding held at Toot'n Totum on Grand Street — a unique choice since the bride works at the store — after the couple obtained their marriage license at the courthouse and saved on traditional wedding costs.  96.9 KISS FM
  • The Don Harrington Discovery Center will show classic Christmas movies every Saturday in December at its Space Theater (Dec. 6: Polar Express, Dec. 13: Elf and Die Hard for 21+, Dec. 20: Rudolph, Dec. 27: How the Grinch Stole Christmas). EDUCATION NEWS

  • Governor Greg Abbott announced on Wednesday that Dimmitt ISD will receive $218,429 from dual credit grants to support workforce development. The funds will finance an automotive technician program to help train students for good-paying jobs & build future career opportunities.  NewsChannel 10
  • Panhandle Youth Ag Education Day at the Amarillo Farm & Ranch Show will inspire high school students to explore agriculture careers through hands-on activities (local educators say the event may boost interest in family farms).   • Randall County extended its burn ban order on Tuesday, Dec. 2, for 90 days, banning outdoor burning of trash, debris and brush in unincorporated areas; BBQ grills and smokers remain allowed while violators face fines up to $500.  NewsChannel 10
