  • Amarillo Zoo will host a Winter Break Camp for kids ages 5 to 12 on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event costs $25 and offers crafts, animal encounters + holiday cheer while parents shop.  96.9 KISS FM
  • Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare is waiving cat adoption fees through Dec. 13 at 3501 S. Osage (10 am to 6 pm, Tuesday-Saturday). Residents can adopt spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped cats for a loving home.  96.9 KISS FM
  • Cowboy Christmas is a free, family-friendly holiday event held today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 809 E. Ninth St. in Panhandle—featuring Cowboy Santa, longhorn chili and mini photo sessions to support the Harrington Cancer Foundation.  NewsChannel 10
  • Amarillo’s Code Blue Warming Station reached its 20-person indoor capacity as freezing temperatures push more residents and their pets to seek shelter. The volunteer-run station works with local nonprofits & redirects people to alternative safe options when full.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Amarillo’s Downtown Public Library will host the Memory Cafe for residents with memory loss and their caregivers on Dec. 13 from 12 to 2 p.m. The program, started last year, offers free music, games, and activities to help participants stay socially connected + engaged.  NewsChannel 10
  • Help 4 The Holidays is urging Amarillo residents to donate essential items (toiletries, toys, winter gear, and more) at Wolflin Square at the old Vexus building, 2221 I-40 Frontage Rd. The drive stays open today through Sunday as donations slow and families need support.  NewsTalk 940 AM
  • Olivia’s Angels hosted its annual tree lighting on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at the Harrington Cancer and Health Foundation in Amarillo, honoring caregivers and hospice patients while celebrating Sister Olivia’s lasting legacy.   • The City of Amarillo’s Community Development Department and the Amarillo Continuum of Care are calling for residents to volunteer for the 2026 Point-in-Time Count on Jan. 23 to survey homelessness and guide future federal funding. CULTURE NEWS

  • The Amarillo Wind Ensemble will perform its free Hometown Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, at First Christian Church, 3001 Wolflin Ave, where Santa Claus will appear. Donations will benefit Teen Christmas + the Pantex Christmas Project.  NewsChannel 10
  • Last Friday, downtown Amarillo was lit up as Center City Amarillo hosted its annual Electric Light Parade — showcasing a West Texas Christmas theme with western-style floats and vehicles from local sponsors.  ABC 7 Amarillo
  • Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum invites locals to its Christmas Open House today on its East Lawn from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The event features crafts + cookies + cocoa + choirs and Santa photos offered for $10 to $20 while guests may donate $1 or bring a can for the High Plains Food Bank.  NewsChannel 10

  • Amarillo National Bank released its November Economic Analysis, reporting retail sales rose 12%, new car sales increased 32%, and used car sales climbed 48% from a year ago despite lower housing and agricultural commodities & falling oil prices. The analysis noted steady construction, rising housing starts, and data center activity.  KGNC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fifteen high school students were selected for FirstBank Southwest’s Banking Advisory Council (BAC) as part of a competitive program offering hands-on community banking learning and mentorship. The program runs monthly from October through May and brings together local students to build real-world skills.  Amarillo Globe-News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Texas A&M Forest Service is offering up to $80,000 in grants through the Texas Resilient Landscapes Initiative to help landowners restore native trees on properties of 10-150 acres that lost trees in the past 10 years. Officials will visit properties in areas with limited recovery funding & provide guidance, and applications are due by January 23.  ABC 7 Amarillo
