  • Today, the Grinch hunt is underway in Canyon, with local businesses hiding a 2-foot figure next to a reward of a $100 VISA gift card for each correct spot. A Merry Market will take place on Saturday, Dec. 13, on 4th Avenue and 15th Street (weather permitting) featuring holiday vendors and family activities.  Amarillo Globe-News
  • Amarillo Zoo will host its Winter Break Camp on Dec. 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for kids ages 5 to 12; the camp features crafts, animal encounters and holiday cheer at a cost of $25 with parents bringing lunch.  NewsTalk 940 AM
  • Help 4 The Holidays saw a big boost on Saturday when donations began flowing in and by Sunday, Dec. 7, the event at 2221 I-40 Frontage Rd in Wolflin Square had set a record — energizing support for local nonprofits.  NewsTalk 940 AM
  • Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare hosts a free holiday cat adoption event, waiving fees through Dec. 13. The center (3501 S. Osage) is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., offering cats that are spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped for families.  NewsTalk 940 AM

  • HTeaO in Amarillo offered a Holiday Gallon deal, two gallons for $10 until Nov. 22, and will run it again from Dec. 12-21, letting locals pre-order in store, via drive-thru, or via app + raised $150,110 for the Ryan Palmer Foundation Breast Cancer Initiative and introduced holiday lattes.  NewsTalk 940 AM

  • Country singer Aaron Watson will perform his annual Family Christmas concert in Amarillo on Friday, Dec. 12 at 8 p.m. at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts (his children and wife will join him to deliver a mix of holiday classics and personal fan favorites).  Amarillo Globe-News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Texas unemployment claims fell to 11,134 for the week ending Nov. 29 from 19,483 the previous week. Nationwide, jobless claims dropped seasonally to 191,000 (from 218,000), signaling an overall decline.  Amarillo Globe-News

SPORTS NEWS

  • WT Buffs won the Heritage Bowl 28 to 27 over Arkansas Tech yesterday at Community National Bank Trust Stadium (Corsicana) after Miles Hill’s final defensive stand, keeping their postseason record perfect.
