- ➤ Mayor Cole Stanley accepted the JustServe City Award (presented by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) for promoting volunteerism, joining Amarillo among 104 U.S. cities recognized for connecting volunteers with meaningful opportunities. NewsChannel 10
- ➤ The Amarillo Zoo will host 'Twas the Week Before Christmas from Dec. 15 to Dec. 19, where families can enjoy free story times at 10:30 a.m. & crafts at 11 a.m. with regular admission. The event will offer festive holiday fun for all ages. NewsTalk 940 AM
- ➤ Kids can meet The Grinch today at 9 a.m. for a pancake breakfast at HIS Church on Arden Rd and will see him on Friday, Dec. 19 at 5:30 p.m. at McDonald's on Soncy Rd, which offers free hot chocolate, coloring, and a photo booth. NewsTalk 940 AM

- ➤ Santa visited Northwest Texas Healthcare System on Friday morning by helicopter during the holiday event. He waved at patients and visitors while the Heritage Hills Honor Choir sang festive songs, and Santa spent time with kids at Children’s Hospital + distributed Christmas stockings to newborns. - ➤ Texas Tech HSC School of Nursing is celebrating its 10-year-old VBSN program today during the commencement at United Supermarkets Arena (5:30 p.m.), honoring nearly 551 nursing candidates and 172 veteran graduates. Amarillo Globe-News
- ➤ The Canyon High School board will meet at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday to decide if acting head football coach Matt Lovorn should be named permanent for the remainder of the school year. Lovorn (a Canyon alum) took over on Oct. 7 after head coach Todd Winfrey, and the vote will determine his future with the team. ABC 7 Amarillo
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Following the May approval of a $14 million safety bond, Canyon Fire now operates 24-hour shifts to speed emergency responses for residents. Fire Chief Dennis Gwyn said the new staffing (aimed at improving the city's ISO rating) sets the stage for planned station upgrades. Amarillo Globe-News
