- ➤ Foster children across the Panhandle received new bicycles at a Christmas dinner on Friday night as local nonprofits teamed up for the Bikes for Kids campaign, with groups like Amarillo Angels + Heart Gallery of the Panhandle Plains helping out. - ➤ Christopher S. Copeland, who saved officer Kennedy during a 2023 traffic stop, is posthumously honored today with the Carnegie Medal for heroism. He was fatally shot in June on his way to work in Amarillo (his brave act saved a life during a dangerous struggle). Amarillo Globe-News

- ➤ At Tuesday, Dec. 16’s Tree of Angels ceremony at the Santa Fe Building, families and law enforcement officials honored victims lost to violent crime with a candlelight service (featuring ornament placements and a memorial video) as coordinator Sonja Ybarra noted an extra tree was added to remember more loved ones. - ➤ The Guyon Saunders Resource Center will close on Dec. 31 and shift services to Transformation Park’s Hub after the new year, as its director Stephen Cross confirmed. - ➤ Amarillo Economic Development Corporation approved an amendment on Dec. 18 to pay approximately $13.8 million in a lump sum to Texas Tech’s School of Veterinary Medicine, saving taxpayers about $1.8 million. The payment awaits Amarillo City Council approval in January. Amarillo Globe-News
- ➤ TxDOT will close the right lane on southbound I-27 from Sundown Lane to McCormick Road on Sunday, Dec. 21 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday for barrier wall placement.
